What is the Tobacco Policy Planner?
State and local governments are enacting tobacco-free laws across the country. Businesses are also becoming increasingly sensitive to health and safety practices at the workplace that protect employees. A worksite tobacco policy protects employees, visitors, and customers from environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) by restricting tobacco use at worksites. A tobacco policy is similar to other policies that protect employees from hazardous pollutants at work. Tobacco cessation continues to be one of the most cost-effective measures to reduce health care costs and increase productivity at the workplace and having policies in place to prevent tobacco use supports cessation efforts. For this reason, more and more companies across the nation are adopting tobacco-free policies and providing worker benefits and services that support prevention and cessation of tobacco use. The American Cancer Society has created the Tobacco Policy Planner, a free, online resource to help assess your company’s workplace programs, policies and benefits related to tobacco and moving toward being 100% tobacco-free.
How does it work?
The Tobacco Policy Planner is the American Cancer Society’s free, targeted, online assessment tool that includes a short company-specific survey to determine where your company falls along the workplace tobacco free policy continuum. A detailed report is available after the survey is completed and provides resources specific to your company’s needs.
What can you expect?
After you complete the survey and receive your detailed report, use this information to help create new or enhance existing workplace tobacco polices and programs. This resource can assist employers in creating a safe, healthful environment that enhances employee well-being, while improving the company’s bottom line.
