CEOs Against Cancer National Meeting - Draw Leaders from across US

More than 50 CEOs attended this year's National Meeting, June 10th in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The biennial event, includes the Society's CEOs Against CancerĀ® National Meeting and the Impact Conference with a focus on changing the course of cancer in companies and communities, as well as around the world.

US Bancorp Chairman, President, and CEO Richard K. Davis co-chaired the event, along with John R. Seffrin, PhD, the Society's national chief executive officer. The Minnesota Chapter of the Society's CEOs Against Cancer hosted the conference. (See the Corporate Impact Conference page for more details).

In addition to the Corporate Impact Conference being held simultaneously and offering interactive workshops and seminars, the biennial event recognizes corporations and a chief executive officer for working relentlessly to save more lives and change the course of cancer through the Corporate Impact Awards, presented by the Society's Corporate & Systems Initiative.

This year's recipient of the CEO of the Year award was Patrick J. Geraghty, president and chief executive officer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota. For information about the five companies that were also honored, visit acsworkplacesolutions.com/impactawards.asp.

The CEOs Against Cancer National meeting included a keynote address by Seffrin, who discussed the need to lead a collaborative movement to conquer cancer in the workplace, in the community, and worldwide.

In Richard Davis' keynote, he stressed the need for CEOs to become engaged with their employees' health and wellness and how it can affect so many different aspects of a company, of an employee's life, and of a community. He shared the pebble in the pond story and how CEOs can so strongly effect their environment. He believes it is a shared responsibility with his 62,248 employees at US Bancorp. He also challenged CEOs to take action, be courageous and do the right thing.

The CEOs' meeting also included an excellent panel discussion featuring Gary C. Bhojwani, president and chief executive officer, Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America; Michael L. Davis, senior vice president, Global Human Resources, General Mills; Dawn M. Owens, chief executive officer, OptumHealth; and Gregory R.
